Kitchen window - Filthy to clean...

2025-05-27 |

The kitchen window is finally done. Someone caulked it like the other one, but I didn’t attempt removing the crap off for fear I would break it (like the other one.) Usually the parting beads don’t have nails in them, but this one did. I suspect it was “fixed” by a former tenant. Part of the frame behind the parting bead had rotted away. The window weights for the upper sash were missing from this window like the one in the living room, so the upper sash will remain permanently up.

The glass in one sash is pre-1920s blown glass. Can you imagine blowing glass for windows? That’s how they did it when they built this house. The glass in that sash is over 100 years old!

The storm windows operate normally, which is a genuine surprise as the rest of the windows are missing the upper, lower, or both. The screen that I had for this window is not the right screen. It’s too tall. I don’t know where it came from so I’ll check to see if it fits the windows in my bedroom downstairs. I have no screens in the bedroom down there. It looks like I’ll be making screens for five windows in this apartment — so far.
